There is both a science and an art to painting an older building. Our experience can help you approach your project with an informed strategy to minimize environmental hazards and maximize the paint’s beauty and longevity.

Paint buildup, layers of wallpaper, textured finishes, mosses, warping and mildew create preparation challenges. Using harsh methods to remove paint down to bare wood can permanently damage those surfaces and obliterate evidence of historical paints and architectural context. At the same time, when paint builds up to about a sixteenth of an inch (16 to 30) layers over the years, one more coat could be enough to trigger cracking, peeling, crazing and alligatoring.
