Local organization awards city preservationists

In light of some controversial demolition in the city last week, here’s some happy new for preservationists. The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation announced its winners for their annual preservation awards. Those honored were:

Building Rehabilitation Award:The Anticetus Group for 425 Broadway. The group recently rehabbed the exterior and removed a first-story roof over the storefront. Also, Brian and Nicole Byrne for their work to 251 Clinton St., also known as Inniscarra, the former home of singer-songwriter Chauncey Olcott.

New Contextual Design: Darley Stud Management (owned by Sheikh Mohammed) for their work at the Greentree Training Center on Nelson Avenue. Also, Helena Frost was honored for her building at 153 Grand Ave., designed by the Phinney Design Group. The new modular building replaced a multi-family building destroyed by fire.

Adaptive Reuse Award: Linda and Conrad Zurich were honored for their building 14 Talford Place, the former Whitney Carriage House built in 1886. They converted the building into three condos. Also, Tom Roohan was recognized for 15 Vermont St., a former warehouse that is now two apartments.

Exterior Facade Initiative Award: Cecelia Frittelli and Richard Lockwood for their building at 143 Grand Ave., which houses their textile studio. Also, the Hottensen family was honored for their work to 99 Division St.

Kay Owen was also honored for 47 Franklin St., one of the oldest homes in Saratoga. She repaired a lot of her home’s old aspects with Old Saratoga Restorations. Finally, Diedre and Michael Ladd were recognized for their work at 113 Regent St. The work included removing skylights, replacing the roof and exterior painting.

Exterior Paint Awards: Gerald Schynoll of 203 Caroline St.; Susi and Ken Ritzenberg of 215 Caroline St.; Kirstin and Darren Drabeck of 244 Caroline St.; Shirley Loya of 20 Granite St.; and Mary Kate Hallanhan of 187 Lake Ave.

Porch Initiative Awards: Tim Grossman of 97 Division St.; Michael White and Beth Johansen of 37 George St.; Janis Kelleher-Dawsey and James Dawsey of 56-58 Greenfield Ave.; and Tyson Hunt of 137 Woodlawn Ave.

Landscape Initiative Award: Lisa and Patrick Jankowski are being honored for restoring their brick sidewalk at their home at 227 Nelson Ave.
